Tony, Hein, Morgan and Todd all live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland Australia. Paul lives just outside Brisbane at Beaudesert. Rudi & Andy have just completed their studies at university in Tasmania Australia and can normally be found where ever there is big surf.
We would like to thank our respective partners for their encouragement and support in allowing us to fulfill a dream, … plus we thank them in advance, for any other adventure to be had!
The Banking & Finance Guy – Tony Tregurtha
Tony has spent a career in the banking and finance industry and is a co-founder in a Management Consulting and Software firm based across Australia and Asia. Tony lives on the Sunshine Coast Queensland after working in Singapore and Hong Kong. Any spare time he has loves either spending time catching up with friends or riding his bikes, thinking about bikes or dreaming about bikes. Finally, Tony would like to dedicate this ride to his brother, may he rest in peace.
Currently in the shed Tony has a 2010 KTM 690r, Husaberg FS/FE570, KTM 450exc & a KTM 400exc. Paula rides a Yamaha WR250F.
The Bushman – Hein
Hein is married to Corene (who has graciously allowed him leave of his household duties) and has three adventurous sons, Rudi(21), Andy(20) and Ryan(15). Born and schooled in Paarl, a small country town in the wine growing region of South Africa, he bought his first bike, a XT500, after leaving school. The next 18 years were spent in FMCG operations in Botswana, filling in the weekends with off road riding, travel and racing. Emigrating in 2003, he now resides in Noosa on the Sunshine Coast, spending time with friends and family. He loves riding all types of off road bikes and finally.
Currently in the shed Hein has a KTM 300 exc & a Suzuki DR650R. Corene rides a TTR230r.
The Record Company Man – Morgan
Morgan was born in Geraldine, New Zealand. After graduating from Victoria University he worked variously roles in NZ and London before setting up one of Australia’s largest independent record label with his partner Giuseppe Palumbo. Now living on his farm on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Morgan finds time to travel, ride his motorbike and tend his garden (he has a green finger), as befits a Gentleman Farmer. For his years, he knows how to throw a party and is often the last man standing (even though he is the elder of our group).
Currently in the shed, Morgan has a Suzuki DR650R an array of agricultural 2 and 4 wheel machines.
The Big Wave Surfer – Rudi
Rudi lives for surf, travel and adventure.
Born and raised in Africa, he has raced bikes since the age of 5. Learning to surf in 2003, he has been passionate about the sport ever since. Other interests include kite surfing, biking and photography. Having completed his B.Comm in Maritime Logistics Management, he now spends most of his free time surfing Shipsterns and other spots and is based in Hobart, Tasmania Rudi will be driving the truck, keeping the crew fed, as well as being the logistics manager for the trip. Finally after the recent floods in the outback, Rudi looks forward to riding the great inland sea!
Living life to the full – Andy
Andy is an outdoor adventure guy. Raised in Botswana, he is an avid dirt bike rider, kite surfer, fisherman, surfer and loves animals. His first bike race was at the age of 4 on a PW50, and a 120km adventure ride through the Kalahari on a XR100 at the age of 10. Strictly speaking for age, Andy has spent more time riding a bike on one wheel than most people have spent on a bike. On arrival in Australia in 2003, he learnt to surf and the rest is history. Having just completed his B.Sc in Maritime Resources and Fisheries, Andy is the main cameraman and will be riding what ever parts of the trek he can (on one wheel!).
The Bike Collector – Paul
After meeting Paul in Birdsville he has agreed to come along for the entire trip. Morgan was very happy to hear about Paul joining us as it has meant that he is no longer the senior in our group and we now have an age range from 20 to 62.
Tony was also pleased to meet Paul as he had always thought he had an obsession with bikes, but that was until he met Paul who has over 40 bikes. When we asked what his wife thought about his bike collection he told us it was not until recently that he confessed to that he in fact had more than 10 bikes. Paul and Finella have a melded family of five children and five grandchildren. Pauls hopes for this trip are for good riding,a safe conclusion and that more people will make a pledge as generous as Sharon Clarks initial offer of $1.00 per km. When this trip is over Paul is planing to hang around home for a while in an attempt to replenish a depleted stock of brownie points. He would also like to acknowledge that he is married to a very generous and understanding woman.
The Obsessed Rider – Todd
Todd grew up on a farm in the Mary Valley and started riding at 7 years old on a DT175. Every day after he had milked the cows and chopped the wood he would ride until it was dark. His passion for bikes grew to fixation and was racing at every opportunity he could. Besides dirt/enduro bikes, Todd visits the Motorcross track weekly and rides both road & super motard bikes. Both Todd and Sheree (Todd’s fiance’) love riding which passed to their son Mitchell. Just past walking age at the age of 3, he had his first bike. Now father and son love heading bush and testing themselves on anything extreme. You may ask how obsessed Todd is with riding? Well to join our trip he has delayed his wedding….wow…. what an obsession!…wow…..what an understanding woman!… Todd, you better make it a good wedding when it finally happens!!
Besides a plethora of road bikes, Todd’s off-road bikes of choice include KLX450 and a Husky SM/TE610.
