The Journey – Overview

Starting on 27th of June 2010 over a 100 day period, our plan is to cross at least 10 Australia deserts in one journey. Our journey will start on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland Australia before heading to Birdsville and tackling the deserts in the following order;

1. Simpson Desert: 176,500 km2
2. Central Desert (Around Alice Springs)
3. Tanami Desert: 184,500 km2
4. Great Sandy Desert: 284,993 km2
5. Gibson Desert: 156,000 km2
6. Little Sandy Desert: 111,500 km2
7. The Nullarbor Plain or “Nullarbor Desert”
8. Great Victoria Desert: 424,400 km2
9. Moon Desert (South Australia)
10. Painted Desert (South Australia)
11. Pedirka Desert (South Australia)
12. Simpson Desert: 176,500 km2
13. Strzelecki Desert: 80,250 km2
14. Tirari Desert (South Australia): 15,250 km2
15. Sturt Stony Desert: 29,750 km2

Now before you say something, we know, we realise that there are 14 deserts listed above and we are called our adventure “10 desert ride”. Our original plan was to tackle 10 deserts, thus our name. The mere fact that as our adventure has grown and we are cross up to 14 deserts is purely incidental, so we feel it does not warrant a name change. So “10 desert ride it is!”

11. Coober Pedy to the Simpson Desert
12. The Rig Road through the Simpson Desert to Birdsville
13. The Strzelecki Track
14. The Birdsville Track
